GRADE 3 AND GRADE 6

Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics

These two assessments provide both individual and system data on student achievement at key stages in elementary school. With annual provide-wide assessments now occuring in both Grade 3 and 6, educators and parents in every elementary school have comprehensive and individualized data on student achievement at key stages in elementary years.

GRADE 9

Assessment of Mathematics

An annual Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics will rpovide individual and system data on student`s knowledge and skills in the area of Mathematics. The assessment is based on the newly implemented mathematics curriculum, and different assessments have been developed for students in applied and academic programs. All students in these programs are required to participate in the assessment.

GRADE 10

Onatrio Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

This test measures how well students are meeting the reading and writing expectations in all subjects set out in the provincial curriculum up to the end of Grade 9. All students who are working towards a high school diploma are required to participate in the Grade 10 test.

  • A series of paragraphs expressing an opinion
  • A news report, An information paragraph

  • Learn to write for a specific purpose and audience
  • Identify the main idea
  • Provide supporting details
  • Organize and link ideas and information
  • Use appropriate tone for the purpose and intended readers
  • Construct a good paragraph
  • Use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
