Grades 1 - 3 :
We teach:
- Phonics
- Implicit grammar instruction through communication
- Dialogue reading
Grades 4 - 8 :
We teach:
- Phonics/syllable structure
- Explicit grammar lessons and practice
- Reading novel studies
- Writing plot summaries
Grades 9- OAC:
We Teach:
- Phonics/intonation curves
- Explicit grammar and practice
- Completion of an average of one story
every two weeks with comprehension questions.
Homework Outline:
Phonics: In-class work
to be reviewed at home.
Grammar: Approximately
five to seven exercises.
Reading: One chapter of
a novel or a short story every two weeks to be taken from
the assigned readings
Writing: Two or three exercises
per reading which have corresponding exercises in the reading
material.
OR: A summary of each story
upon completion ( approximately every 2-3 weeks)
OR: A summary of two or
three chapters of the assigned novel every few weeks ( level
4-8)
Please Note: The
novels at levels 9-12 are to be read independently. Students
are expected to complete one chapter per week or every two
weeks for homework. An in-class discussion of the novel
regarding comprehension will take place once the student
has finished reading it.
